Auto parts stores stock filters, brakes, batteries, fluids and tools, test batteries and read check-engine codes for free, and most lend specialty tools against a deposit. Salvage yards sell used parts at a fraction of new prices, either pulled by staff or by you at a self-service yard, and they buy junk cars. Car dealers sell new and used vehicles and run service departments with factory-trained technicians. Gas stations and truck stops supply fuel, air and basic supplies, and EV charging stations are spreading along highways and in shopping-center lots. Welding and fabrication shops build brackets, trailers and custom exhaust, and rental agencies supply trucks, trailers and equipment by the day.

Greenwich is in Connecticut, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Greenwich is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Connecticut's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Greenwich Shell on Post Road in central Greenwich, across the street from Whole Foods, is friendly, and spotlessly clean, and reminds us of the important services “gas stations” offered across America decades ago. 😊. Where else within 100 miles can you go with a flat tire on a Sunday morning, and find a trained mechanic able to fix it immediately? Where else can you buy gas, and get your car assigned to one of three car bays and have your engine diagnosed or fixed, while shopping for groceries? And the owner Chris is on premises every day, with some of the lowest cost prices for gas in the area.

I’ve been coming here for the past five years for an oil change and service was always great. This last time however there were multiple issues when I picked up my car. When I got home I called to let them know I was disappointed and instead of apologizing, he starts arguing with me. If he had just apologized, I would have gone back. Now I have to find a new place to have my car serviced. Sigh Issues were: my car was left outside, with the engine running for over 20 minutes - (they pulled it out and left it running while they waited for me to come pick it up); they didn’t close the hood all the way; my glove compartment was hanging open and stuff had fallen out; someone turned on the heated seat and even changed the radio station; and finally, the old sticker letting you know when your next oil change is due was stuck to my bumper (I saw it when I was closing the hood they left open). I will definitely NOT be back.

This is my second time leaving this shop with more broken parts and issues than I arrived with. I paid for new OEM Porsche parts, as shown on my repair order, however worn, used parts were place on my car twice, making the fix just a Band-Aid at full price. They are preying on & hoping that the lackadaisical Greenwich resident will just come back and have them fix it. I compared to my repair order from this shop to a professional Porsche shop, everything that the Shell station stated that they fixed needed to be replaced again in less than six months. Even the shop manager at our new shop had questions about who touched this car last… Stay away from this place if you truly want your car fixed

I rarely post reviews but will make an exception in this case to warn our Greenwich community. I believe that Greenwich Shell, on E Putnam across from Whole Foods, is the WORST ripoff garage and a disgrace to our Greenwich community. I agree with Jason K’s review — AVOID THIS GARAGE LIKE THE PLAGUE. I wish I had read his review before using this garage and I would give them a zero if I could. On 12/8/25 I took my Porsche Macan Turbo into this Greenwich Shell station ( across from Whole Foods) to get gas like I usually do. (I live in town). Got an alert my coolant was low, so went inside to buy some coolant. The man behind the counter was very nice and offered to fill my coolant tank for me. When he opened my hood to fill my coolant, he told me I had a leak that could be easily fixed if I dropped my car off and they would accommodate me very quickly and easily. I did so the next day and Greenwich Shell completed a repair on my car within a day. I was shocked at the size of the bill ($800) but I paid it since I assumed that they fixed it properly and I wouldn’t have any more coolant problems. This was the first time I ever fixed my car anywhere other than my Porsche dealer and bo

EDIT: HAD MY CAR SOMEWHERE ELSE AND THEY EASILY CONFIRMED THE “WORK” THIS SHELL STATION DID WAS ACTUALLY NEVER DONE. The worst local shop. Pretty simple what they do. They’ll call you fairly quickly to say what is wrong and how much, they’ll then call you 2-3 hours later explaining how “another part” broke and now the bill is 30-50% more. I brought one of my cars in for a repair I knew it needed and my bill nearly doubled because another “broken part” was found. My wife then goes by since I did still trust them somewhat but this was a smaller job and guess what… car is dropped off “diagnosed” even though she knew the issue going in then of course, 2-3 hours later we get the same call saying “another part” broke as they were fixing the initial issue. Pretty strange… That may work on most people but we’ve both been in the car business for 15 years locally. I’d avoid this place at all costs or suggest that if they call you and state a price over the phone make them email you that estimate as well and double check that it makes sense. They can hardly pump the correct gas in your car. It’s unfortunate I thought they’d be able to do honest work on one.
